Cybertruck Service · Real Ownership Cost

Tesla Fixed My Cybertruck Fast, But There Was a Catch

Tesla mobile service arrived within hours and a tire replacement that could have cost roughly $600 cost me $25 through the protection plan. Then I saw the scratch on the wheel.

A strong financial result and a service-quality complication in the same visit.

The Quick Verdict

The protection plan paid off. The overall visit was not flawless.

For this tire replacement, the plan delivered obvious financial value and Tesla’s response was impressively fast. The scratched wheel made the service experience more complicated, but Tesla acknowledged the problem and followed up. I would rather judge the plan and the repair quality separately: one was a clear win, while the other required resolution.

Tesla Fixed My Cybertruck Fast… But There Was a Catch

This is the sequence as it happened: the flat tire, mobile service, protection-plan cost, scratched wheel, awkward conversation, and a second service visit in the same week.

01

The Tire Protection Plan changed the cost dramatically.

A Cybertruck tire replacement can be an expensive surprise. In this case, what would have been roughly a $600 replacement came down to $25 out of pocket through Tesla’s protection plan.

That does not prove the plan will pay for itself for every owner. It does show the value clearly in the kind of situation the coverage is designed to handle.

02

Tesla mobile service arrived within a couple of hours.

I requested help through the Tesla app, and the mobile-service response was fast. Having the repair come to the truck removed the normal logistics of arranging a tow or getting a damaged tire to a shop.

Speed and convenience were genuine strengths here. Up to the moment the work was completed, the experience was shaping up as an easy success story.

03

Then I noticed the wheel had been scratched.

The technician acknowledged the damage. That was better than having to argue about whether it happened, but it changed the experience immediately. A repair should solve one problem without creating another.

The complication was not the tire plan itself. It was workmanship and what happens after a service mistake.

“A $25 tire replacement felt great. A scratched wheel made the final verdict more complicated.”

04

The reimbursement offer put me in an awkward position.

The mobile technician offered to reimburse me personally. I appreciated the willingness to take responsibility, but that did not feel like the right resolution. A customer should not have to negotiate privately with an individual technician over damage caused during company service.

The better path is for the company’s process to handle the issue clearly and protect both the customer and the employee.

05

Tesla returned for a second issue and waived the fee.

A couple of days later, Tesla came back to clean foggy camera glass. The fee for that visit was waived as a courtesy, which showed responsiveness and added another positive data point to the same week.

That is why the experience does not fit neatly into “Tesla service is good” or “Tesla service is bad.” The response and recovery were strong, while the original scratch should not have happened.

06

So, is Tesla Tire Protection worth it?

For this incident, yes. The difference between roughly $600 and $25 is substantial, and mobile service reduced the disruption. That is the plan doing exactly what I hoped it would do.

Whether it is worth buying depends on the coverage terms, tire replacement cost, how long you keep the vehicle, and your tolerance for risk. My experience is one real example, not a guarantee of everyone’s result.

Decision Summary

Separate the protection plan from the service mistake.

What Worked

  • Mobile service responded within a couple of hours
  • The tire replacement happened at the vehicle
  • Out-of-pocket cost was $25 instead of roughly $600
  • The technician acknowledged the scratch
  • Tesla followed up and waived the later camera-cleaning fee

What To Consider

  • The wheel should not have been damaged during service
  • Personal reimbursement was not an ideal resolution path
  • Coverage value depends on your own risk and ownership horizon
  • One positive claim does not guarantee every service experience
  • Photographing wheels before tire work is a sensible precaution
